R.I.P. Phil Vane
some sad news to report...earlier this week Phil Vane, vocalist for Extreme Noise Terror, passed away and grindcore lost a legend...it shocked me to hear of this, considering Phil was only 46, but apparently the story is that he passed away in his sleep....gone but never forgotten, his music and spirit will live on forever...E.N.T. has always held a special place in my heart...when i was a young punk rocker i found a patch with the Extreme Noise Terror logo at the local hardcore record store and i immediately snatched it up and sewed it onto my favorite hat that i wore all the time, i had never seen a patch like that before, or since (i lost the hat at a hardcore show but thats a whole other story) while being one of the best hardcore crust punk bands, in my opinion, E.N.T. also became very influential in grindcore with their dual vocal attack...Phil Vane also sang for Napalm Death for a short while, so yeah, it goes without saying this guy was legendary in the scene and definitely will be missed....
heres probably one of the heavier albums Extreme Noise Terror ever released, and also one of my favorites because not only do you have Phil and Dean from E.N.T. doing vocals, you also got Barney Greenway from Napalm Death thrown into the mix and the result is fucking amazing...not taking anything away from Napalm Death because i love them just as much as E.N.T., but i would have liked to see Barney do another album with E.N.T. cause this one is so good

H.R. - Hey Wella
okay so Bad Brains are one of my favorite hardcore punk bands of all time, very influential to me as a young punk rocker, thanks in large part to the vocal stylings of this man, H.R. (Human Rights)...he has such a distinctive voice that stands out from the rest of the pack and you can tell he never holds anything back when he picks up the mic...now this solo album came out in 2008 and is quite a departure from Bad Brains style and even his older self titled solo album...i love H.R. and have much respect for the guy but i have to be honest...i don't know what the fuck hes talking about half the time on this record!...its no big surprise that this rastafarian smokes lots of weed and that while under the effects of the ganja, its possible to not make a whole lot of sense when you speak, but this is ridiculous...just listen to the title track to this record and you'll know exactly what i mean....H.R., with all due respect, i don't know what the hell you're smoking man, but chill out on that shit for awhile, its having a negative effect on your music...with that being said, i still think this record is worth a spin or two...its not the greatest offering from a living hardcore legend but check it out anyway and have yourself a "soul reggae hip hop rub a dub luv" good time

Lady Death : The Motion Picture
being a big fan of Chaos Comics (Evil Ernie in particular) i was super stoked to learn that there is a new Lady Death comic book series that is being released by Boundless Comics, a division of Avatar Press...issues #0 and #1 are out now, with #2 slated for sometime this month...the artwork looks incredible and the story is still being written by original creator Brian Pulido...so i got issue #0, and i plan on trying to keep up with this series cause i think its gonna be killer....back in 2004, years after Chaos Comics went out of business, Lady Death was resurrected in her own full length animated movie!! and that's what we have here....some people may have problems with this movie, personally, i think its awesome and im just happy to see a favorite character of mine (that isn't Marvel) get animated...even if you've never heard of Lady Death before or have never read a comic book in your life, this movie is still an enjoyable watch...long live Lady Death!
